Have you ever pushed a pram riding a skateboard?

Katja has. (Pushed a pram whilst riding a skateboard).

German born Katja – mother, painter, skateboarder – studied for a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the West of England. After art school, she returned to Frankfurt where she ran a concept store.  That’s when Katja met her husband, Armin. But he happened to be living in Paris, which was hardly convenient. So after an intense year of “crazy love, but no commitment from his side” (oh God, we’ve all been there) she ran for the hills (to New York) just like any woman would!

And yes, of course Armin legged it to NYC to propose…

They eloped right there and then, only returning to Frankfurt to get rid of their respective apartments, studios and belongings.  They threw a big leaving party, she sold her artwork, he sold his stuff at Flea markets and with two suitcases and a dog called Selva they packed up and went to live in Brooklyn.

(We love this love story).

Introducing mama of Flynn (4) and Otis (4 months). And if you ever see a woman pushing her pram through Brooklyn on a skateboard, now you know what to say. Say hello to Katja.

Boys are always in action modus...

They need to physically burn so much energy during the day and that's why we spend most time playing soccer, or going skateboarding. It's a great excuse to spend the days in skateparks again.

With boys...

Everything is faster, higher, better and there's a lot of competition in everything. Shame Superheroes don’t help with the tons of very dirty laundry.

I’ve been skateboarding since I was a kid...

But never had a real long-term skate buddy. It's so much more fun to skate with somebody who’s on the same level. Flynn is getting there and he's a fast learner and so THEN I'll have a great skate buddy again! Hopefully Otis will follow.

Yeah, I've been skating while pushing a stroller...

But the best feeling was speeding down the sidewalks side-by-side when Flynn turned 3 and started to be really good on the scooter.

It was the most amazing moment when...

Flynn was handed to me as a newborn. I was completely overwhelmed and started crying. I'd never really connected with babies before. Even when visiting friends with newborns, I avoided holding them. It's crazy what hormones do to women. After the birth of my own child, I became completely crazy about every baby in the world. Even when a baby was crying on TV I had to leave the room, I became so emotional, I couldn’t take it!

I'm scared of...

Half of America right now

Hillary wasn’t my dream candidate...

I dont think she would have ruled this country with more heart than any other fellow men. But a least she had a plan and she would have made sure to go down in history books as a successful first female President. Instead we have a rich clown ruling the country now. He sways with the wind. He has no concept. It is absolutely unpredictable what is going to happen in the next 4 years.

I dream of...

Mastering a few more skateboarding tricks!

Life is...

What you make out of it. Care for nature, be kind to people and animals. But most of all, don't be passive.

I have some pretty stupid tattoos...

But I dont regret them, they are part of me now, I don't belief in regrets.

I wish for...

Michelle Obama for President.

A quick and easy kid's meal is...

Avocado in Pita bread.

I'd describe my art...

As being inherently fascinated by the same re-occuring urban places of building projects, walls, bridges and underpasses. To me they resemble the gaping wounds of time and the very existence of our society in the form of graffiti and decay. Rotting urban landscapes, old billboards and crumbling walls reveal the most unintended beauty. My passion is to capture neglected spaces and my present surroundings and memories of places mingle and infuse within the paintings.

Tell us a joke...

Never make the same mistake twice. Make it 5 or 6 times, just to be sure.
